RadAdd® Additives for
RADIATION CURE COATINGS

RadAdd® brand additives were developed specifically for use in energy cure ink and coating applications.  Utilizing both silicone and organic chemistries as bases for formulation, many of the RadAdd products are true silicone-organic hybrids.  Stoichiometrically balanced and offering unique performance attributes, the RadAdd line of products is gaining wide acceptance as a leading choice for optimizing UV/EB systems.

Primary benefits associated with RadAdd UV performance additives are highlighted below:

  • Improved Slip
  • Mar, Rub, & Abrasion Resistance
  • Increased Gloss
  • Pigment Wetting/Stabilization
  • Surface Tension Modification
  • Foam Control
  • Anti-Blocking
  • Improved Flow (leveling/wetting)

 Radiation Cure Applications:

RadAdd additives compare favorably to many silicone-based additives traditionally used in radiation cure ink and coating formulations:  In stand-alone applications, RadAdd products excel.  Primary products used are the RadAdd® 1024, RadAdd® 1051, RadAdd® 1116, RadAdd® 1118, RadAdd® AF200, and RadAdd® 1327.   Additional RadAdd products are available.

As seen in Figure 1 to the right, RadAdd 1024 was compared in formulation to a silicone surfactant widely used throughout the industry as a high-performing, general surfactant.

Not only did the RadAdd 1024 increase slip by nearly 1/3 (as measured by slide angle), but the RadAdd 1024 also showed dramatically improved mar, rub, and abrasion resistance capabilities as well (as signified by reduced Coefficient of Friction measurements.)

RadAdd® 1116 :   Properties Comparison Study

In similar use tests, RadAdd 1116 was directly compared in formulation to a leading silicone additive widely perceived as an UV/EB industry "standard" for its ability to provide a superior combination of slip, gloss, and leveling.

As shown in Figure 2 to the left, RadAdd 1116 compares favorably to its widely acclaimed competitor.  RadAdd 1116’s distinct advantage over other high performance additives providing slip, gloss, and leveling, however, is its superior cost effectiveness.
